(April 2016)

First and Second class had great fun planting seeds. We planted cress, peas and spinach seeds. We made small holes using our fingers and placed some seeds into each hole. We covered them with soil and watered them. We placed them in the window to make sure they had enough light.

The boys and girls in first and second class were very lucky to have a very special, woolly visitor come into their class this month. They had learned all about farming, completed farming projects and even watched Big Week on the Farm each night. They were super excited to see Ciara’s daddy coming in with a one day old lamb.

A huge thank you to Willie Doyle for this great learning experience and for answering all of our questions.

3rd – 6th class are sounding superb in their music lessons. All pupils are learning to play the tin whistle. For a lot of them this is their first time learning a musical instrument. We have a great music group formed with a variety of instruments. We look forward to hearing their talents at various school events throughout the year.

Bricks 4 Kids is coming to Kiltealy N.S. on Friday 29th April.

Bricks for kids workshops use lego bricks that kids love to deliver hands on lessons correlated to cross- disciplinary curriculum objectives.

The Bricks 4 Kids approach to learning is imaginative, multi-sensory and fun!!!!

On April 29th we will be welcoming all of our new infants for the 2016/17 year to the school as a part of our new transition programme. This will be the first of 4 visits for the new infants in order for them to get used to their new surroundings and teacher, making the transition so much easier in September. For further information, give us a call!

Fire officers called to the school last week to talk to our 3rd and 4th class students about fire safety. The children really enjoyed it and had lots of questions for the officers.

There will be an Army Veteran’s Mass on Thursday 28th April at 10am. All of the community are welcome to attend.   The veterans will be calling into the school to talk to the children about their experience of life in the army afterwards.

This weeks winner of Split the Pot is Junior Infants pupil “Ryan Bowe” winning €190.

Congratulations Ryan!

As part of our Green School’s program all of the children at Kiltealy National School will be taking part in a whole village clean up. Starting at the school the children will pick up litter around the village, improving our environment and how our village looks.

First and Second Class have been learning all about farming. They learned how butter was made in the past. They made their own butter.

We but cream into a jar and shook it as hard as we could. We saw the buttermilk seperate from the butter. We even got a chance to taste the butter on some crackers! Yummmmy……
