Staff and pupils of Kiltealy NS, along with many members of the parish and wider community, recently marked the retirement of Mrs. Biddy O’ Leary as caretaker of our primary school.

A mass in celebration of Mrs. O’ Leary’s retirement was held on Friday, February 2nd in St. Patrick’s Church, Kiltealy. It was fitting that the mass also celebrated Grandparents’ Day, as Biddy is a much loved grandparent herself. Fr. James Fegan presided over the mass while prayers, readings, music and singing was led by the senior pupils of Kiltealy NS.

On this heart-warming occasion, a warm welcome was extended to Mrs. O’ Leary and members of her family at the mass. Mrs O’ Leary, or Biddy, as she is fondly known, has spent over 40 years cleaning and caring for Kiltealy NS. It was noted how lovely it has been for all pupils and staff to walk into a sparkling clean school every morning as Biddy was acknowledged for all she has done for the school over the years.

In her words of thanks, Mrs. Mary Carroll, Principal thanked Biddy, wishing her the very best in her retirement as she deserves a well-earned rest. However, she was reminded that the school door will always be open to her and it is hoped that she will continue to call in to see all the staff and pupils.

As mass came to a close, a presentation was made on behalf of the Board of Management, the staff and the pupils of Kiltealy NS. Celebrations continued with refreshments in the school, where members of our Parents Association catered for all those in attendance.

Biddy thoroughly enjoyed her special day and once again we publicly acknowledge her contribution to Kiltealy NS and wish her the very best in her retirement.
