Each classroom this term has held a maths problem solving quiz every Tuesday and Thursday. The teams were made up of different students from both classes in the classroom. After each quiz the results were entered onto classroom charts which were displayed in the corridor. Congratulations to the winning teams!!

The girls of the Mini 7 team had the opportunity of playing at half time of the Leinster qualifying match between Wexford and Westmeath in Mullingar on Sunday last the 14/6/15. The girls played a Westmeath team made up of players from different schools around Westmeath. The girls had a great day and did themselves and their school proud. Well done to all involved!

In science we were learning about the lifecycle of the butterfly.

First and second class were lucky enough to watch this metamorphism take place in their very own classroom when five tiny caterpillars arrived in our school during the second week in May! The caterpillars were placed out of direct sunlight and up high so they wouldn’t be too disturbed.

The caterpillars came with their own jelly like food at the bottom of the jar so we didn’t have to feed them! The caterpillars were obviously very hungry as we noticed them eating and eating and getting bigger before our very eyes!

We noticed the caterpillars starting to get ready to build their cocoons as they began to hang themselves from the top of the jar. After a few days we were amazed to see that all five caterpillars were wrapped up cosy in their cocoons! We had to make sure that the caterpillars were not shaken or moved during this time.

We did not have to wait too long as after about a week and a half in their chrysalis, we had two beautiful butterflies which emerged from the cocoons. There was great excitement in the classroom and the whole school with our new arrivals! The next day the remaining three butterflies also emerged from their cocoons. We fed the butterflies a sugar and water mixture (which we put on a tissue for them) and fresh flowers. We also gave them slices of apples and pieces of oranges which they really seem to enjoy. We will keep them in the classroom for a couple of days until their wings have strengthened and then we will release them on the same day as we raise our Green Flag in the school on the 12/06/15. We will be sad to see them go as it feels like they have been part of the class for the last few weeks!! We all enjoyed watching the life cycle of the butterfly happening first-hand!

We had a class vote and decided on the names Flutter, Christina, Leafin, Crystal and Lily although it is hard to tell who is who!! ( except Flutter who is always fluttering her wings!)

Kiltealy N.S had their annual Sports Day today. We all had a really enjoyable day. We started off with relay races and ended our first break with Sleeping Tigers. We then had 10 different activity stations to score points at. I think everyone’s favourite part of the day was the tug of war game, especially 6th class against the teachers 😉 . We ended the day with a really fun soccer tournament. Have a look of some of our pics……………..

The date for our next clothes collection has been confirmed as the 18th of June. The shelter will be open during school hours from the 15th of June to facilitate the dropping off, of clothes and any unwanted items made from fabric ( curtains, duvets, shoes, bags etc).

Well done to Ann Farrell who was this weeks lucky Split the Pot winner. Split the Pot draw takes place every Monday so make sure you have your entry in 😉

You might have spotted children in the area last Wednesday with some gloves and bin bags! Kiltealy N.S completed our Spring Clean around the locality. Wexford county council collected our rubbish last Friday. The children did a great job, but we really had to search for rubbish as Kiltealy was so clean.

We received some great news during the week…..we have qualified for our first green flag! The Green School committee and all the children in the school are so excited. They have all worked so hard to keep our school clean with as little waste as possible and really deserve this reward. 2 teachers and 2 pupils will represent the school on Thursday 21st May in Kilkenny during the award ceremony and will be extremely proud to bring home our first green school flag.

Keep up the great work everybody 😉

Here are some photos of Junior and Senior Infants participating in our Spring Clean…….

The girls in fifth and sixth class in Kiltealy, Ballindaggin and Caim are currently training and taking part in the Rackard League camogie competition. The girls have made a superb start with two comfortable victories over Gorey Bunscoil Loretto and also Rathnure National School, winning by 7-6 to no score and 5-2 to no score respectively. Our next game will take place in Coolree on Tuesday 12th of May at 2.00pm against Blackwater and the final qualifying game takes place eight days later in Coolree on Wednesday 20th of May at 2.00pm against Craanford.

The girls are putting in a huge effort and would welcome your support during the campaign! 🙂

01/06/15

Having narrowly lost to Craanford in the last round of the group stages the girls then advanced to the quarter final against Glynn. The girls faced a tough and skilful Glynn side, however our girls put in a superb effort  and won the match by a scoreline of 7-3 to 1-5. We now are through to the county semi-final of the Rackard League competition which will take place this Thursday 04/06/15 in Bellefield, Enniscorthy at 15:30 against Bunclody.

Once again, we would ask for your support to get behind the girls and cheer them on this Thursday!

11/06/15

Hard luck to the girls of the Rackard league camogie team who lost the semi-final against a very strong Bunclody team. The girls put up a great fight and did themselves proud. It was a great achievement to get that far and to represent our school as one of the top four teams in Wexford.

Ms Byrne’s Junior and Senior Infants  experienced how Michelangelo felt painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel today. We learned some basic facts about Michelangelo  and were surprised to discover he painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel while lying on his back. So today , we decided to see what that was like. We stuck paper underneath our tables and created some pictures while lying on our back. It was great fun to try this but I think we all agree it might not be the most comfortable!!! Have a look at some of our pics 😉
